FAW Group is a global leader in the vehicle manufacturing industry with a 60-year history of innovation. China FAW Group Corporation, commonly referred to as FAW due to its original name of First Automotive Works, broke ground for its first factory on July 15, 1953. FAW produced China’s first Jiefang commercial truck in 1956, and in the year 1958, China’s first Dongfeng car and first Hongqi luxury sedan rolled off the production. Since then, FAW has been at the forefront of promoting China’s automotive industry.

FAW Group Corporation is headquartered in China’s northern city of Changchun, Jilin Province. FAW Group’s domestic production facilities, subsidiaries, and engineering development and test centers are located in 18 locations throughout China. Manufacturing plants are located in northeastern China’s Jilin, Liaoning and Heilongjiang provinces, eastern China’s Shandong province and Tianjin municipality, southern China’s Guangxi and Hainan provinces, and southwestern China’s Sichuan and Yunnan provinces. Products include a full range of passenger cars; light, medium, and heavy trucks; coach chassis; municipal transit and intercity buses; luxury tourist coaches; mini vehicles; engines; transmissions; axles; and components.

International cooperation


FAW-Volkswagen Automobile Co. Ltd. is a large-scale joint venture passenger car manufacturer between FAW Group Corporation and Volkswagen AG, with share investments of 60% and 40% respectively. Volkswagen’s 40% investment is divided between Volkswagen AG (20%), Audi AG (10%), and Volkswagen Automobile (China) Investment Co., Ltd. (10%).

Following 20 years of continuous construction and development, the product offerings of FAW-Volkswagen have extended from the Jetta sedan to include the Bora IV, Caddy MPV, Golf IV, Magotan (European Passat), Sagitar (European Jetta), Audi A4, and A6L. The luxurious extended wheelbase A6L is produced exclusively by FAW-Volkswagen. Production capacity had reached an annual output level of 1,500,000 vehicles(2014).

FAW Toyota
On August 29, 2002, FAW Group Corporation and Toyota Motor Corporation signed a significant agreement in Beijing at the Great Hall of the People, to establish a strategic and long-term cooperative relationship for joint cooperation. Thereafter, the two parties commenced a wide scope of joint activities including wide-scale production of Toyota products in China and related transfers of technology.

FAW Mazda
FAW Mazda Motor Sales Co. Ltd. (FMSC) is a joint venture company established on March 1, 2005 by FAW Group, FAW Car Co. Ltd. (FCC), and Mazda Motor Corporation. The registered capital of the new joint venture is US $13.7 million, with FAW Group holding a 5% stake, FAW Car with 70%, and Mazda Motor Corporation holding 25%. As the first network of Mazda dealers in China, the company will not only be responsible for Mazda6 sales within the Chinese market, but will have sole distribution rights to all future Mazda-branded vehicles to be produced and launched in China. FMSC will also be responsible for spare parts and accessories distribution, and special factory-supplied tools. The company’s mid-term goal is to produce and sell over 300,000 units in the Chinese market by 2010.


FAW-GM Light Duty Commercial Vehicle Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as FAW-GM Company or Company) is a joint venture operated by China FAW Group Corporation and General Motors (China) Investment Co., Ltd. It was formally launched on July 27, 2009 with the registered capital of RMB 1.2 billion. Both parties have 50% share respectively and the business period of the joint venture is thirty years.

There are seven departments in the company: General Administration Department, Finance Control Department, Purchasing Department, Manufacturing Department, VSSM Department, Engineering/R&D Center as well as Product Portfolio and Program Management Department and there are 6,937 employees in total. The business scope includes research, development, sales and aftersales of light duty truck (including chassis), light duty van (including chassis), light duty special vehicle (including chassis) and related assemblies and parts as well as storage and logistics of vehicles and parts.

Company has three plants: FAW Harbin Light Duty Vehicle Co., FAW-GM Hongta Yunnan Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd. and Changchun Plant, with the total building area of 452,100 square meters. There are lines of four major processes (pressing, welding, painting and general assembly) as well as production lines of four corresponding assemblies (cab, frame, cargo box and axle). They have product portfolios including light truck (1T, 2T, 3T), pick-up, construction vehicle, SUV, MPV and light van. Export includes finished vehicle, CKD and SKD. Besides, they have assembly plants in Russia, Ukraine, Mexico and Vietnam and have already exported to over 20 countries and areas around Southeast Asia, the Americas and the Middle East etc.
